Radiologist of the Month November 2022

Join us in congratulating our latest radiologist of the month, Dr. Marlena Jbara, from Florida, USA. Take a minute to read the interview with Dr. Jbara and make sure to follow us on social media to find out who will be the next radiologist of the month!

What is your background?

Mother, MSK Radiologist, Artist and Physician Life Coach and Co_founder of Groove Mds.com. I am a committed lifelong learner and remain a student at heart. Graduating from Brooklyn College & SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn’s Accelerated BA-MD Program, I was fortunate to train under a master in Biomechanical Musculoskeletal Radiology, Javier Beltran MD. Certified by the American Board of Radiology in 2001, I spent the next two decades in Academic Radiology, learning, implementing, and training many of our finest radiologists today.

From my first career as a waitress I learned the important relationship of our kitchen community and the delivery of quality service and those lessons never left me as I entered the world of Medicine. Early in my career I was moved to action as I witnessed the deleterious impact of diabetes and sadly how the ever increasing amputation rates were costing our communities. In coupling my love of orthopedic radiology with my love of community, I began to develop continuing medical education programs dedicated to improving the value and use of Imaging for foot and ankle surgeons, podiatrists and residents in radiology, podiatry, orthopedics, and emergency medicine.

Rad Pod Squad LLC is an interactive, global comprehensive curriculum especially designed for Podiatrists who wish to keep pace with technological advances in podiatric imaging and build skills in imaging interpretation. Through this unique collaborative approach, our Rad Pod Squad provides the education, practice and community to gain confidence in imaging diagnosis. Rad Pod Squad is one of the ways we in Radiology and Podiatry can get “Our Groove Back” in medicine. Beyond education and confidence in diagnosis, as an antidote to Physician Burnout our sister company GrooveMds.com is dedicated to creating more communities rich in mentorship and sponsorship. Our overarching goal is to source and rejuvenate us caregivers so that we can continue to deliver high quality effective care throughout our lives.

How did you find out about Collective Minds?

Retiring from Academics, I began to see how I could bring the idea of Coaching and community from Radiology to a global community. In the interest of building Community, I met the amazingly talented, competent and innovative Dr. Christophe Agten, who works to build confidence and accuracy among MSK physicians with his online global fellowship.

After a strategic call, he invited me to learn from and join his community with the ability to interact with the students of his wonderful online Global Radiology Fellowship @Agten Radiology. Dr. Agten regularly uses Collective Minds to host the cases our students will upload for our weekly discussion and it has always been a reliable way to handle many images.

What’s been your best experience?

From the beginning, Collective Minds was essential to discuss, collaborate, share and view the many images among us. Anyone anywhere could share and be exposed to the education, protocols, differentials, and sheer availability of global expertise funneled into one place. My best experience is in the amount of expertise available for any case.

I am always learning something new as many physicians share their thoughts about differentials and protocols and in every case, I learn something new. After 25 years of radiology, that is rejuvenating and enjoyable. Also, I have shared my differentials and have met so many new physicians, and this is such a great antidote to the long dark hours, many of which are spent alone in radiology. This online community is a great part of my Anti-Burnout Tool Kit for Rads.

What would you like to see added to the service? (new features, our services)

I know a fraction of the site’s capability and already love the flow, as viewing images from everywhere is made so simple for the user.

Do you believe Collective Minds will make a difference for patients?

Absolutely as we now have the capability of sharing our questionable cases, interesting finds, or even the simplest question. By promoting community we encourage diversity, a naturally progressive ingredient that can help lift our communities toward wellness. Education can be available to all and with an abundance of expertise, our patients benefit from all of our expertise. CMRAD makes a difference for all communities through collaboration.

Thank you Dr. Marlena Jbara for your contribution to the community and congratulations once again, you are our Radiologist of the Month, October 2022! Check out this link if you would like to know more about how you can access our community to share, discuss and collaborate on your radiology cases!
