Radiologist of the Month – April 2021

Congratulations Camari Katirewa from CWS Hospital in Fiji! You are our Radiologist of the Month! Take a minute to get to know Camari and how she uses Collective Minds in her profession!

Who are you and what is your background?

My name is Camari Katirewa. I am from Fiji which is a group of islands located in the South Pacific Ocean. I am a Radiology Registrar at the CWM Hospital in Fiji. I joined Radiology 11 years ago and I have an interest in MRI and Interventional Radiology which we do not offer locally. We do not have any PG training/residency programs in Fiji, so I refer to textbooks and search the internet and these are the resources I use to help me interpret especially CT and MR images.

How did you find out about Collective Minds?

I had an MR image that was a bit difficult for me to interpret so I started searching on the Internet. I searched on YouTube and found some videos on Collective Minds, and that is how I came to know about Collective Minds. I decided to sign up and register and it has been a tremendous help to me.

What’s been your best experiences with Collective Minds?

My best experience with Collective Minds would have to be when other Radiology specialists agree with what I have in mind as a diagnosis. Like I have mentioned, we do not have any training program locally, so feedbacks/guidance from more experienced Radiologists helps me know that I am on the right track and really boosts my confidence and motivates me to keep learning and develop my knowledge and skills in MR image interpretation.

What would you like to see added to the service?

Honestly, I think this platform is perfect. I just found out that there are also webinars and am really looking forward to attending the next one. The only problem I have had so far is in uploading follow-up cases and trying to link it to the initial case. Other than that, Collective Minds is a wonderful platform and in this short time since I joined, I have learnt a lot.

Do you believe Collective Minds makes a difference for patients?

Absolutely. If I can give an accurate interpretation of the patient’s imaging study, then it will in turn help the clinician make decisions on how to manage the patient. So, through Collective Minds and the collective feedback from specialist radiologists, we are making a difference for the patients.

Any other comments?

I want to thank Collective Minds for nominating me as the Radiologist of the Month. Thank you to the CMRad team for creating a wonderful and user-friendly platform where we can share cases with expert Radiologists across the globe. Fiji is a small country with limited resources and skills, especially in Radiology. To have experienced Radiologists reaching out through this platform to offer their expert opinion is highly appreciated. Thank you for taking time off your busy schedule to comment on cases that I upload.
