DR. Lasker's: Plain film X-Ray course

Written by Gustaf Dahlbeck Nobel | September 9, 2024

Course Description

This course offers a comprehensive exploration into the fundamentals of plain film X-ray imaging, a cornerstone in medical diagnostics. Through a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, students will delve into the principles of X-ray production, radiation safety, patient positioning, and image interpretation.

Hands-on sessions will provide opportunities for students to master proper patient positioning techniques, essential for obtaining accurate diagnostic images across various anatomical regions. Additionally, participants will learn to identify common pathologies and anomalies through the systematic analysis of radiographic images.

Dr. Imran Lasker, a consultant radiologist, introduces an educational course focused on plain film X-rays, designed to teach participants how to systematically and efficiently interpret X-rays for various parts of the body. The course is comprehensive, covering the following topics in-depth:

  • Introduction and Fundamentals of X-rays
  • Facial Bones
  • C-spine (Cervical Spine)
  • Shoulder
  • Elbow
  • Wrist
  • Hip and Pelvis
  • Ankle
  • Knee
  • Foot

Each lecture is dedicated to a specific region, providing detailed explanations, search patterns, and key points for identifying pathologies. Dr. Lasker emphasizes the importance of identifying both primary and secondary findings, a concept known as the "second fracture" or "second findings," to avoid the common pitfall of satisfaction of search.
The course also includes interactive elements to enhance learning:

  • A total of 10 lectures
  • 4 quizzes, each with 15 cases, to test your knowledge and understanding
  • A library of 31 real live cases for further practice and self-assessment
  • A PDF summary of the lectures
  • CPD accredited

In addition to the lectures, participants have access to a reporting pile similar to the FRCR exam, which contains a mix of normal and abnormal findings. Each case in the reporting pile is followed by video tutorials that review and explain the findings, helping participants refine their reporting skills. Overall, this course offers a thorough and structured approach to X-ray interpretation, aiming to improve the diagnostic abilities of radiology professionals.
