Written by Dhaanish Parvez | September 14, 2024

The Monthly Case Webinar series, hosted by Collective Minds Radiology, offers a platform for radiologists to share knowledge and discuss intriguing cases. In this blog post, we'll dive into the highlights from the 26th edition of this webinar, presented by the esteemed Dr. Imran Lasker.

A Diverse Array of Cases

The webinar, introduced by Dhaanish Parvez, Product Specialist at Collective Minds, covered approximately 12-13 cases spanning various imaging modalities, including CT, MRI, and plain film radiography. This diverse selection ensures that attendees gain insights into a wide range of radiological challenges.

Key Cases and Diagnostic Pearls

1. Subtle Wrist Fracture

One of the initial cases presented was a hand X-ray that appeared normal at first glance. However, Dr. Lasker demonstrated the importance of thorough examination, revealing a subtle fracture in the distal radius.

"When you kind of look at it, you do feel as though there is something a little bit abnormal about this area here," Dr. Lasker noted at 0:27 in the video.

This case highlights the significance of carefully examining growth plate areas and looking for subtle cortical irregularities.

2. Pneumoperitoneum Detection

A CT abdomen and pelvis case showcased the importance of identifying free air in the abdomen. Dr. Lasker emphasized the value of the "fecal sign" in localizing small bowel obstructions.

"When you look at the contents of the small bowel, this looks like feces, whereas this looks a bit more liquid," he explained at 44:08 in the video.

3. Orbital Mass: A Rare Presentation

The webinar concluded with a donated case featuring an orbital mass, later identified as a manifestation of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA). This case underscored the importance of thorough orbital examination in head CT scans.

"This is yeah, a phenomenal, phenomenal case of it," Dr. Lasker remarked at 55:54 in the video.

The Value of Collaborative Learning

Throughout the webinar, Dr. Lasker emphasized the importance of systematic approaches to image interpretation and the value of collaborative learning. The interactive nature of the webinar, with attendees contributing their observations via chat, demonstrates the power of collective knowledge in radiology.

Conclusion

The Monthly Case Webinar #26 by Dr. Imran Lasker offered a wealth of knowledge for radiologists at all levels. From subtle fractures to rare orbital manifestations of systemic diseases, the cases presented underscore the complexity and diversity of radiological diagnoses.
